April 21st, 2026 Democratic meeting

Chair Report:  
1. Mary Allen signs are going up all over and we have more available especially for
highway traffic & greater visibility.
2. Progress on the flagpole.  It will be up shortly.
3. The little food pantries were mentioned as people are grateful and noticing.  “Every good
revolution always starts with feeding people”.
4. We need poll workers for the primary election. Currently need 4 more workers.
5. Bill introduced the guest speaker, Dave Crooks, the district chair.  

Outreach committee:
Film at the Tivoli featuring Bill Breeden’s political trial in 1986 documentary still in
transition.
Blue Bash Dinner (previously known as Jefferson/Jackson Dinner)
Legislative Report:  Judy Darnell reported on several issues.

March 17th, 2026 Democratic Meeting Minutes

Chair Report:
- Everyone check your voter registration.
- We need poll workers for the primary election.

Frank Coffin: Reported on the election board.

March 7th Iran & Ice protest rally: 23 people showed up in the rain.

Happenings this month:
1.) March 28th Nationwide NO KINGS rally
2.) New text messaging service,

- April 20th Candidate Event at the Tivoli

Outreach committee:
- Little pantries are doing well thanks to some donations. Now delivering Mondays at noon and Thursdays 6pm.
- Owen County Theatre & Arts Alliance production of Godspell. Their show is March 27, 28, and 29th.

November 18th, 2025 Democratic meeting

● Spencer Town Council: Congratulations to Ginger Kohr.
● Monthly events.
● County Council Report
● Building report: Both front doors and kitchen door were replaced.
● Outreach Committee: Starting to meet the need!!!

● Veteran’s Outreach: Has prepared a draft letter ready to go out to businesses.
● Legislative Update: Currently there are bills in the state to do away with the Township system.
● Candidate training meeting: Had a meeting with Michelle Higgs who brought in Mary Noone.
● Coat drive: What are we doing with all the coats?
● Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi has become an issue for Democratic hall.

NEXT MEETING: December 16th; Supper/Social 5:30-6:30; business meeting 6:30-7:30. The special speaker is Mary Allen running for US Congress 8th District. (Mark Messmer holds that seat at the moment.)

October 21st, 2025 Owen County Democratic Party Minutes

●Town Council Election
● Past Events: A recap of recent activities included the Apple Butter Parade, Cataract Bean
Dinner, Spencer Pride Festival, Fiesta Owen County, No Kings Rally, and Hog Roast &
Auction.
● Building Improvements: David Henk reported that new doors have been ordered
● Fundraising: The Hog Roast & Auction was a success despite the rain.
● Outreach Committee:
1.) Pantry 279 Collaboration
2.) Toiletry and Coat Drive
● Homeless Support
● Legislative Discussion: Judy is seeking volunteers for the legislative committee.
● Dwayne Chaney left a sheet of some quotes for everyone…food for thought.
● Upcoming Events:
1.) A fireside chat with Governor Mike Braun\
2.) A fundraiser and movie showing of "The Times of a Sign"
3.) Bernie Sanders is being honored by the Eugene Debs in Terre Haute

September 16th, 2025 Democratic Meeting Minutes

● Jane Rubeck has stepped up to be Chair of Washington III with Don Taylor as Vice
chair.
● Collin Rotella reported on volunteering at the Patricksburg Fish Fry.
● Building report:  A lot of scraping was done prior to painting.  
● Anton Neff spoke of the Apple Butter Festival.  
● Bruce McCallister spoke about the need of a fund to assist veterans in Owen County and their transition from military to civilian.  
● Outreach
● Technology:  Collin Rotella reported that TikTok may be going away & Instagram is
slow going
● Legislative: Judy Darnel reported on a list of bills
● Duane Cheney addressed the survey (We Care) taken at the August meeting
● John Schrock spoke of Sam Hobbs & Mt. Olivet Church having a prayer meeting on the courthouse lawn.
