June 16th, 2026 Democratic Meeting Minutes

Attendance: 37 Members


Call to Order
Pledge


Bill Breeden, Chair Report
* Indiana Democratic Convention
* Approval of Last Months Minutes: May minutes were approved.
* Protest report - 25 attendees, reported a continued increase in positive support from passersby.

Sandy Calvert, Treasurer Report:
* Bank Balance Reported
* Heating bill increasing from $55 to $100
* Other regular monthly utility bills are still pending from the reported amount.


Frank Coffin, Election Board Report:
* Check your voter registration
* CFA-4, delinquencies still exist for republicans, all from our party have filed.
  * Hearings to be held
  * Next CFA-4 due in October
* School Board Elections
  * Districts 2, 3, and 5 - speak to Linda Roy if interested.
  * Can now run on the school board with a party indicator.
* June 30th deadline to notify Chairman (Bill Breeden) of intention to run for an open position on the ballot. Caucus July 3rd. Party must notify the state by July 6th.


Delegate Report:
* Jane Rubeck: It was powerful to be in the room with that many democrats.
* Stephanie Barlow: Surprised by lack of events at the convention, but was awed to be with that many democrats in one room.

Fundraising Committee:
* Sweepstakes at the fair: four rounds of golf and Babbs Giftcard
  * Daily free prize drawings will come from Candidates.
* “The Times of a Sign” - PBS documentary about Bill Breeden playing at the Tivoli Theater in July, as well as music by the Midwest Liberation Front.
* Blue Bash: Dinner with speakers and music.  Still trying to retain speakers. Expected in August or September

Food Committee (Jo Ann Neal):
* Thank you to those who assisted in bringing food.  
* Next month will be garden salads, so bring your produce!

Building Committee (David Henk): Absent.

Outreach Committee Report (Collin Rotella):
* Two new little free pantries installed at Hamilton Center and Clay Township Fire Co.  
  * Special thanks to Robert Hickman for building the Clay Township box.
  * The number of little free pantries have increased 40% in the last year.
* Chicken Chuck
  * Stephanie Barlow and Collin Rotella competed in the Chester Chicken Chuck, earning a $50 donation for Pantry279.  
* Invitation to be present on June 24th for a large delivery of food to Pantry279.  Good press opportunity for candidates.  Arrive at 9:15am.
* Pop Up Pantries have had great success.  Averaging roughly one pop up every two weeks. Positive response from community.
* Volunteers are needed for a Voter Registration drive on June 27th from 9am to 3pm at the Cataract Lake Community Center.
* Trivia Night is June 27th.  Doors open at 6pm and trivia starts at 7pm.
* Round 2 preorders for T-shirts is open. T-shirts are $20.  

* MyPath (Glenda) - put forth a motion to sponsor event for $100.  Moved and seconded.  Motion passed.
* Beach Bash (Glenda) - request for sponsorship but more information is needed.
* Parade (Glenda) - 50501 is going to have an entry in the Bloomington 4th of July Parade and have invited us to march with them.

Election Campaign Committee (Bill Breeden):
  * Looking for candidates for remaining open slots.  
  * Must be filed by July 6th.
  * Jerry Reynolds will be our new candidate for Surveyor.  
  * No requirements to run for many slots. (Attendee stated: “Sam Hobbs proved that!”)
  * Door knocking coming.  Days or weekends to be scheduled.  There will be training provided.

Volunteers needed for the Tivoli.  

Precinct Chairs (Glenda) -
  * You can be a precinct chair for an area you don’t live in, but can be appointed.
  * Helps get out the vote.  Is the legislative body of the party. Encouraged to come to meetings.
  * Chair and Vice Chair are strongly encouraged to be of opposite genders.  (Rule was implemented to get more women in positions of power)

Legislative Committee (Judy Darnel):
  * List passed for email list
  * Request for help with the committee
  * Speaker Johnson is wanting to “Adjust” entitlement programs
  * 10-12% of Americans use Medicaid which will be affected.
  * Beckwith insulting people of Islamic faith.
  * FaithOverFearIndiana.org - Petition to support religious liberty
  * Beau Bayh was nominated to the Secretary of State race
  * MadVoters has a voter guide available.  

(Mike Darnel) Recent effort at IU to end tenured positions by stating the job was “no longer needed”.  Current efforts have been beaten back, but should be watched.
