July 2025 Meeting
Owen County Indiana Democrats

July 15th, 2025 Democratic meeting summary. Key points include:


● The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm. Glenda Breeden opened the meeting with a
wonderful song she wrote, followed by a moment of silence and pledge of allegiance.


● Anton Neff, Owen County Councilman spoke about the importance of getting involved in the
town & county meetings. Another option is to follow on You Tube @ Owen County
Government and on Facebook @ Owen County Councilman Anton Neff. Anton mentioned
that the current Indiana governor is less friendly to its constituents. Senate Bill #1 favors
business owners on the backs of land owners. $350 thousand dollar cuts to the county
government (schools, libraries, fire dept., police dept.) are all being cut. $1 million cut to the
school corporation. Either cuts to these services will have to be made locally or increase local
income taxes. Council meetings are the 2nd Monday of the month at 6 pm.


● Terry Urban mentioned that cuts to the state parks have a ripple effect on many local shops,
the farmers market, and Owen County Tourism in general.


● Michele Demaree from Green County spoke. She spoke about having a list of talking points
on the Big Ugly Bill sent to Representative Banks, and Senators Young & Messmer. Urged
people to get 5 Calls App from the Google store and had packets of 5 post cards available to
send out.


● County Fair:
a.) 200+ Constitutions were given out at the County Fair and a thank you extended to
Julie Coffin for putting labels on all with our monthly meeting info.
b.) Some T-shirts were sold
c.) Sweepstakes & Nightly winners were announced
d.) We supported 4-H by purchasing a sheep. Next year we will be listed on the auction
board and put in the fair book...Visability
e.) Registered 2 new voters & 1 change of address
e.) Thanks was given to all who participated at the booth nightly and also set-up and tear
down of the space.


● Financial report: $3,185.00 is in the bank, and outstanding bills are $1,100.00.


● June minutes were emailed and copies on the tables. Minutes were approved.


● Outreach:
a.) Stephanie reported the need to sign up for the Water Station at the Tivoli Street Fest
August 2nd 6-9pm
b.) The donations for the food pantries were less at the last protest rally. Dollar tree has
the much needed shelf stable milk @ $1.25.
c.) Checking into the repair at the P’burg Elementary lend-a book box as the door was
broken. Child appropriate books are needed.
d.) Card was passed for Ben Williams, owner of Civilian Brewery as he had a brain
hemorrhage
e.) Discussed visibility by attending July 16th Public Arts Community 6pm at the Art
Guild, Gosport Lazy Days, Apple Butter, Cataract Bean Dinner, Pride Fest. Sign up
sheet by front desk for each.


● Rally for “Good Trouble” Thursday, July 17th at the Courthouse 10-11am. Bring donations
for the food pantries Bloomington rally is 5pm Indianaresistancealliance.org

● JoAnn Neal discussed the picnic Hog Roast at Veterans Park Saturday Sept. 27th. Still
looking for a hog & also things for the auction


● Fix-up activities: Sign up sheet on the front table for repairs which still needed to be done.
Examples: Front of the building & soffits need to be scraped and painted.


● Website update: Collin Rotella gave an awesome presentation on the website updates &
who’s who page. All were impressed. Great job!


● Duane Cheney spoke about Messaging.
a.) Bonding...It is about them, use their name as part of the message
b.) campaign messaging...what they want to hear. Talk about their concerns, what they
care about,
c.) Messaging is about repetition...what people nee, we care about the people
d.) What do Owen County people care about? Property taxes?; jobs?, what things have
the Republicans not done?;What can we do better?; Nothing wrong with the truth...
e.) Proposed a Legislative Action Committee...County, State, & Government level


● Bill Breeden concluded with...Governor Braun is executing another man in Terre Haute this
October at the cost of $1 million tax payer dollars.
