The Owen County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to protecting the safety, rights, and property of all residents. Our staff serves the community through professional law enforcement, jail operations, public safety education, and community outreach.

The Assessor’s Office is responsible for estimating the market value in use for each parcel of real property in Owen County. Currently, the county has over 17,000 parcels. The State of Indiana determines the procedures, rules, and regulations that all 92 counties must adhere to in the development of estimates of market values in use. The estimate of value in use becomes the assessed value (AV), which is determined for each parcel on an annual basis.

The Treasurer’s Office handles billing and collection of property taxes, special assessments, and other local taxes. It also manages funds until distribution to appropriate taxing units.

The Recorder’s Office maintains permanent public records that document property ownership and other vital transactions. Our mission is to ensure the integrity, preservation, and accessibility of these records for the citizens of Owen County. Records include deeds, mortgages, liens, leases, plats, surveys, UCC filings, military discharges, and more.

The Board of Commissioners acts as the executive branch of county government. It administers ordinances, oversees daily operations, and ensures delivery of essential county services. Three commissioners are elected at-large but must reside in different districts.

The County Council serves as Owen County’s fiscal body. It oversees budgets, salary structures, appropriations, and local tax rates. The Council includes seven elected members—three at-large and four representing specific districts. District 2: Washington Township (includes Spencer).

The County Surveyor is responsible for managing geographic and land information used for planning and development across Owen County. This includes ensuring accurate property boundaries, maintaining public land records, and supporting infrastructure planning.
