Policies Ideas and Positions

If elected, I will implement a website for the Morgan Township Trustee's office. So information regarding who your Trustee is, and how to contact them, becomes readily available public knowledge.

Collin

About

Collin is a Hoosier through and through.  Born in Franklin, Indiana and attending Franklin Community High School.  After High School, he moved to Minnesota where he attended Normandale Community College's Computer Science program.  However, before he graduated, the call of home was too strong.  Life brought him back to Indiana in 2006, where he finished out his degree in Applied Computer Sciences at Ivy Tech Community College.

In 2012, Collin saw an opportunity for a career shift, and decided to follow his passion to be an entrepenuer.  They say to do what you love, and so he decided to open a board game library in Indianapolis.  Table top board games had become a hobby during the cold long winters in Minnnesota, and he was able to integrate his software development skills to create all of the necessary software to track his unique business idea.  The business was in the up and coming neighborhood of Fountain Square, and featured over 3000 unique board games that customers could come in and play right off the shelf.  It even included a friendly staff that would teach the rules.  Unfortunantely, that up and coming neighborhood also came with ever increasing rents, which forced a move of the business after it's first five years.  A move that library did not survive.

Prior to the pandemics start, a discussion was already under way about wanting to sell the house in Indy, and settle in the country on a piece of land.  And somehow in the middle of all of the lock downs and madness, he managed to find a piece of land tucked away in the Morgan Township area of Owen County.  And in the Spring of 2020, he and his family became the newest residents.

Since living in Owen County, Collin has done volunteer work with both Spencer Pride, as well as the Owen County Democrats.  With Spencer Pride, he was able to bring his love of gaming to the Dungeons and Dragons youth group, as well as hosting general open board gaming events.   With the Owen County Democrats, he has put his other skills gained from his time, both in business as well as in software development, to use by organizing outreach events, retooling the groups website, instrumenting the little free pantry program, and setting up email newsletters and sms programs.

Why Am I Running:

When I first started considering running for this possition, it was painfully difficult to even find out who the current Trustee for my township was.  I was able to finally find his name, through a friend of a friend who works in local government.  Thank goodness for connections!  But I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like for someone in our township who actually needed help.  How in the world would they go about getting it?  The Trustee should be easy to find, and easy to reach.  I still do not know how to actually contact our trustee, and I am one of his constituents!

However, once I learned who our trustee is, I felt more compelled then ever that someone had to run against him.  A quick google search of his name, in hopes of finding some sort of contact for the office, quickly revealed a very sordid recent past.  And now I couldn't stomach the thought of someone who is in a vulnerable position having to go a man like that to ask for help.  It weighed on me.  And so, when it became clear that no one was going to step up and run against him, I did.
